One of the great things about living in a Grand View Builders’ Community is that you always have a plethora of family-friendly activities available just outside your doorstep. With Fourth of July quickly approaching, we’ve gathered a list of community events happening around the greater-Houston area. If you’re not hosting a get together at your home this year, consider attending one of these community events to celebrate America’s birthday.
Mayor Annise Parker’s Freedom Over Texas, presented by Southwest Airlines and sponsored by Nation Waste, is sure to be one of the best events in Houston this Fourth of July. The event features Southwest Airlines vintage aircraft flyovers, a Wal-Mart All-American Kids Zone, tanks and helicopters from KBR Liberty Park as well as visits from all five branches of the military. There will be plenty of activities for the family to enjoy! The event also will have all four Houston sports team set up, music, food and a cooling area to beat the heat. Adult Admission is $8 and those under five are free! This event is sure to be a lot of fun, but we suggest getting there early because this event will be packed!
George Ranch Historical Park 4th of July Celebration
Date and Time: July 4th from 9-5 p.m.
Location: George Ranch Historical Park
Near: Lakes of Bella Terra
This Fourth of July celebration at George Ranch Historical Park includes games for all the family to enjoy and a chance to explore Independence Day through the decades! At 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., guests are invited to learn how to play vintage baseball at the Victorian Mansion. Lunch will be served at the George Yard at 12:30 p.m. and will costs $13.50 (Adults ages 13+) $10 for children (ages 5-12) and $4 for children four and under. The event will also hold their 2nd annual cobbler-eating contest at the George House at 1: 30 p.m. and only costs 25 cents to enter! This event will be a great daytime event full of food, fun and activities for the whole family to enjoy before going to see fireworks.
The Houston Symphony presents their “Star Spangled Salute at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion at 8 p.m. The event will be great place for families to go and have a picnic under the stars. Admission is free, so seats will go fast! Be sure to bring chairs and blankets with you so you don’t have to sit on the grass.. Before the fireworks display, enjoy the 1812 Overture—a cannon display that is quite a delight.
The Red, Hot and Blue Festival is another great event for families and is at Town Green Park from 6 – 10 p.m. The festival, presented in part by Clear Choice Orthodontic Associates, is free and will feature live music, face painting, performers, hot dog and watermelon eating contests, fireworks, concessions and much more! The firework Extravaganza presented by BBVA Compass will begin at dusk and will be simulcast on Sunny 99.1. The Concert in the Park portion of this event will take place at Waterway Square and will feature live music and other Independence Day activities beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Galveston Island’s Fourth of July extravaganza will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a parade along Seawall Boulevard from 28th Street to 53rd Street. The event will feature local groups, performers, floats and decorated military vehicles. After the parade, a firework show will be held at 9:15 p.m. near 37th Street and Seawall Boulevard over the water!
July 4th Celebration & Street Party
Date and Time: July 4th from 5-10 p.m.
Location: Tomball TX for a quarter mile along Business Highway 249 just north of FM 2920
Near: Inverness Estates, Wimbledon Falls and Raleigh Creek
Tomball’s Independence Day celebration, presented by Emerus Community Hospital, will feature live music, a kid zone, food and fireworks along Business Highway 249 just north of FM 2920. Fidelity Maxx will be performing at 5 p.m. and The Bottle Rockers will be performing at 7 p.m. The fireworks display is scheduled to begin at 9:15 p.m. Admission is free and gates open at 5 p.m. There will be free on-site parking at Business Highway 249 near Hicks Road.
